BEIJING, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) — Chinese stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.11 percent to 2,969.56 points. The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.36 percent higher at 9,553.92 points. The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices totaled 961.7 billion yuan (about 135.2 billion U.S. dollars), up from 820.2 billion yuan on the previous trading day. Shares related to electronic information and medical devices led the gains, while the motorcycle and textile sectors suffered heavy losses. The ChiNext Index, tracking China’s Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.80 percent to close at 1,892.18 points Friday.
