1st LD-Writethru: Chinese Shares Close Higher Monday

BEIJING, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) — Chinese stocks closed higher on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.2 percent to 3,268.11 points. The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.09 percent higher at 10,470.91 points. The combined turnover of the Shanghai and Shenzhen bourses reached almost 2.2 trillion yuan (about 309.94 billion U.S. dollars) — up from 2.1 trillion yuan recorded on the previous trading day. Stocks related to aircraft manufacturing and ceramics led the gains, while those in the financial sector suffered major losses. The ChiNext Index, tracking China’s Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.69 percent to close at 2,210.34 points on Monday.
