BEIJING, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) — Chinese stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.43 percent to 2,845.78 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1 percent higher at 8,847 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices totaled 864.79 billion yuan (about 121.5 billion U.S. dollars).
Shares related to the photovoltaics sectors led the gains, while stocks in the tourism and retail sales sectors saw heavy losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China’s Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.93 percent to close at 1,732.36 points on Thursday.
