BEIJING, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) — Chinese stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.85 percent to 3,461.5 points. The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1 percent higher at 10,957.13 points. The combined turnover covered by the two indices stood at 1.87 trillion yuan (about 259.8 billion U.S. dollars), up from 1.79 trillion yuan recorded on the previous trading day. Shares in the retail sector led the gains, while those related to humanoid robots and automation equipment saw significant declines. The ChiNext Index, tracking China’s Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.35 percent to close at 2,292.15 points Thursday.
