BEIJING, July 9 (Xinhua) — Chinese stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 1.26 percent to 2,959.37 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.68 percent higher at 8,705.94 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 724.5 billion yuan (about 101.6 billion U.S. dollars), up from 582 billion yuan recorded on the previous trading day.
Shares related to motorbikes and automobile manufacturing led the gains, while those in the furniture and glass sectors suffered major losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China’s Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.43 percent to close at 1,652.12 points on Tuesday.
