BEIJING, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) — Chinese stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.23 percent to 2,867.28 points. The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.82 percent higher at 8,463.86 points. The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 654.2 billion yuan (about 91.73 billion U.S. dollars), down from 790.48 billion yuan recorded on the previous trading day. Shares related to the education and photovoltaic equipment sectors led the gains, while those linked to insurance, railway transportation and precious metals suffered major losses. The ChiNext Index, tracking China’s Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, went up 1.25 percent to close at 1,627.36 points.
