BEIJING, March 20 (Xinhua) — Chinese stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.55 percent to 3,079.69 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.21 percent higher at 9,717.37 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices totaled nearly 1 trillion yuan (about 140.91 billion U.S. dollars), down from 1.08 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares in sectors such as low-altitude economy and short-play games led the gains, while shares in the steel and precious metal sectors suffered the biggest losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China’s Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.12 percent to close at 1,909.25 points on Wednesday.
