BEIJING, June 12 (Xinhua) — Chinese stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.31 percent to 3,037.47 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.08 percent higher at 9,269.94 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 691.9 billion yuan (about 97.3 billion U.S. dollars), down from 702.9 billion yuan recorded on the previous trading day.
Shares related to media and entertainment led the gains, while those in the cement sector suffered major losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China’s Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, fell 0.44 percent to close at 1,779.42 points Wednesday.
