BEIJING, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) — Chinese stocks closed lower on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 1.00 percent to 3,131.95 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.75 percent lower at 10,458.51 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 744.6 billion yuan (about 103.4 billion U.S. dollars), up from 736.7 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares in sectors such as environment protection and fuel gas led the gains, while those related to health care and medicine suffered major losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China’s Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.31 percent to close at 2,118.92 points Friday.
