BEIJING, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) — Chinese stocks closed lower on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.47 percent to 2,832.28 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.68 percent lower at 8,787.02 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices totaled 666.6 billion yuan (about 93.7 billion U.S. dollars), down from 864.8 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to the production of glass, cement and electrical equipment suffered major losses, while stocks in the tourism, media and entertainment sectors rallied.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China’s Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.98 percent to close at 1,715.44 points Friday.
