BEIJING, July 17 (Xinhua) — Chinese stocks closed lower on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.87 percent to 3,209.63 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.63 percent lower at 11,010.36 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 802.6 billion yuan (about 112.5 billion U.S. dollars), down from 916.8 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Companies in coal, wine-making and non-ferrous metal sectors suffered major losses, while those related to environmental protection and ship manufacturing reported gains.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China’s Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.75 percent to close at 2,207.44 points on Monday.
