BEIJING, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) — Chinese stocks closed lower on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.92 percent to 2,883.36 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 2.06 percent lower at 8,581.76 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices totaled 805.22 billion yuan (about 113.23 billion U.S. dollars), down from 828.7 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks in the printing and packaging sector suffered major losses, while liquor-making shares led the gains.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China’s Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 3.49 percent to close at 1,623.81 points on Monday.
