BEIJING, June 20 (Xinhua) — Chinese stocks closed lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.42 percent to 3,005.44 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.63 percent lower at 9,068.85 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 724.38 billion yuan (about 101.75 billion U.S. dollars), up from 704.7 billion yuan recorded on the previous trading day.
Shares related to textile machinery and tourism suffered major losses, while ceramic and coal stocks gained.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China’s Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.44 percent to close at 1,762.7 points Thursday.
