Chinese stocks closed lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.39 percent to 3,280.49 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.25 percent lower at 12,064.38 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 937.3 billion yuan (about 137.5 billion U.S. dollars), up from 914 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to electronic information, media, and entertainment led the gains, while the hotel and tourism sectors suffered losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.7 percent to close at 2,547.2 points Wednesday.
