16736913989558 Guangdong Province, a leading foreign trade player in China, has set a foreign trade growth target of 3 percent for 2023, Guangdong Governor Wang Weizhong said on Thursday.

Guangdong’s foreign trade volume totaled 8.3 trillion yuan (about 1.2 trillion U.S. dollars) in 2022, the second consecutive year the province’s foreign trade volume surpassed 8 trillion yuan, Wang said as he delivered the government work report at the annual session of the Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress.

In order to further promote high-level opening-up, Guangdong will cultivate and bring in a number of headquarters of trade enterprises, leading cross-border e-commerce enterprises, and leading modern commercial enterprises.

The province also plans to build a batch of export industrial clusters, and support the cities of Shantou and Zhanjiang to build large-scale export processing industrial zones. It will also build six import bases for bulk commodities, electronic components, aircraft, automobiles, agricultural and sideline products, and medium and high-end consumer goods.
