China’s Shanxi Produces 444 Mln Tonnes Of Raw Coal In Jan-April

16848450972956 TAIYUAN, May 22 (Xinhua) — China’s coal-rich province of Shanxi posted a 4.6 percent annual growth in coal output in the first four months of this year as it worked to increase production to ensure supply.

   Raw coal output in Shanxi, the country’s largest coal-producing region, hit 444 million tonnes in the January-April period, according to the provincial statistics bureau.

   Since the start of the year, the province has sped up by adding new production capacity and improving production efficiency with the intelligent and digital transformation of mines.

   In the first quarter of this year, Shanxi set a new record for coal production in a single quarter. According to the bureau, its raw coal output surpassed 333 million tonnes in the first quarter, an increase of 5.9 percent year on year.

   This output accounted for about 29 percent of the country’s total in the first quarter. The province has set a coal production target of nearly 1.37 billion tonnes for 2023.
