BEIJING, May 12 (Xinhua) — Chinese stocks closed lower on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 1.12 percent to 3,272.36 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.23 percent lower at 11,005.64 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 845.7 billion yuan (about 121.7 billion U.S. dollars), down from 895.9 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares in the electricity sector led the gains, while those related to media and entertainment suffered the biggest losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China’s Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.06 percent to close at 2,252.38 points on Friday.
