BEIJING, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) — Chinese stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.71 percent to 3,154.37 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.67 percent lower at 10,540.71 points.
