BEIJING, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) — Chinese stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.25 percent to 3,260.62 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.42 percent lower at 11,098.45 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices shrank to 795.7 billion yuan (about 111.1 billion U.S. dollars), down from 890.1 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares in the pharmaceutical, media and chemical sectors led the gains, while those related to real estate, securities and automobiles suffered major losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China’s Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.53 percent to close at 2,228.91 points Tuesday.
