BEIJING, May 16 (Xinhua) — Chinese stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.60 percent to 3,290.99 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.71 percent lower at 11,099.26 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 864.2 billion yuan (about 124.3 billion U.S. dollars), down from 936.1 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares in the bio-medicine sector led the gains, while those related to media and entertainment suffered the biggest losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China’s Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.25 percent to close at 2,294.19 points on Tuesday.
