BEIJING, May 11 (Xinhua) — Chinese stocks closed mixed on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.29 percent to 3,309.55 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.02 percent higher at 11,142.53 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 895.9 billion yuan (about 129.65 billion U.S. dollars), down from 1.02 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares in the education and media sectors led the gains, while those related to traditional Chinese medicine suffered the biggest loss.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China’s Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.63 percent to close at 2,276.57 points Thursday.
