The MIT Technology Review has unveiled its annual “50 Smartest Companies” list, known as the TR50, with life sciences emerging as one of the standout sectors. Companies including Jinbo Bio-Pharmaceutical Co Ltd, Insilico Medicine, METiS TechBio, BEIJING PINS MEDICAL Co Ltd and DP Technology grabbed spots on the list.

The four leading sectors in this year’s TR50 are artificial intelligence and computing, robotics and smart manufacturing, semiconductors, and life sciences, reflecting both the growth of digital technologies and the surging momentum of biotech innovation.

According to the MIT Technology Review, the world’s “smartest companies” share two defining traits: the intelligent application of new technologies, and the strategic acumen to grasp market opportunities. Armed with innovation and sustainable business models, these firms are extending their influence on a global scale.

Importantly, the MIT Technology Review emphasizes that the innovations highlighted by TR50 are not the achievement of any single country or region. Instead, they represent the outcome of global collaboration and the cross-pollination of ideas, a testament to how science and business transcends borders.

Twenty-eight Chinese companies made the 2025 list, representing 56 percent of the total list, highlighting China’s prominence on the world stage in both technology and business.
