15 April 2023
China Import and Export Fair, also known as the Canton Fair, was established in the spring of 1957. Co-hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of PRC and the People’s Government of Guangdong Province and organized by China Foreign Trade Centre, it is held every spring and autumn in Guangzhou, China. The Canton Fair is a comprehensive international trading event with the longest history, the largest scale, the most complete exhibit variety, the largest buyer attendance, the most diverse buyer source country, the greatest business turnover and the best reputation in China, hailed as China’s No.1 Fair and the barometer of China’s foreign trade.
As the window, epitome and symbol of China’s opening up and an important platform for international trade cooperation, the Canton Fair has withstood various challenges and never been interrupted since its inception. It has been successfully held for 132 sessions and established trade relations with more than 229 countries and regions around the world. The accumulated export volume has amounted to about USD 1.5 trillion and the total number of overseas buyers attending the Canton Fair onsite and online has reached 10 million. The Fair has effectively promoted trade connections and friendly exchanges between China and the world.
“It is a sign of great honour by showing respect to whoever you meet”, reads in “On Rites (I)” of The History of Later Han.

With great anticipation, spring is coming.
With greater anticipation, he Canton Fair is around the corner.
On this day, the key visual image of the 133rd Canton Fair is officially released.
The box, sitting at the centre, carries the message that the 133rd Canton Fair, as the first super large international trading event to be restarted onsite since China’s COVID response policy adjustment, is indeed a gift for promoting the recovery and development of global economy and trade.
The golden-rimmed ribbon, naturally folded on the top, is designed in the iconic shape of 1-3-3 and the 4 areas of the Canton Fair Complex, implying that the new Area D is to be used for the first time for the 133rd Canton Fair. The Canton Fair will embark on a new journey of including its venue expansion and renew its image of “China’s No.1 Fair” vividly.
The buckling knot made in the pattern of a shining flower that is called Baoxiang Flower, represents the functions and roles of the Canton Fair. Since its establishment in 1957, the Canton Fair has always adhered to its original missions and made great contribution to serving economic development and international trade, and promoting connection between domestic and international markets. The red ribbon is designed to be extending from the flower, symbolizing that more Chinese enterprises are setting sail from the Canton Fair and heading towards the international market, and that global customers connect with China, share opportunities and seek common development at the Canton Fair.
The main colors of the image are red and gold, which are employed to convey that the Canton Fair inherits the “red gene” (i.e., the tradition of revolution) and creates a new golden glory. With the support of various parties, the 133rd Canton Fair will achieve breakthroughs in exhibition scale, enriching functions, and improving quality, to make greater contribution to facilitating high-level opening-up, building China into a trading power, promoting high-quality development under the Belt and Road Initiative, preserving the diversity and stability of the international economic landscape and trade relations, and building a community with a shared future for mankind.
