BEIJING, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) — Chinese stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.18 percent to 3,137.06 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.08 percent lower at 10,373.99 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 708.3 billion yuan (about 98.39 billion U.S. dollars), down from 841.2 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to finance, media and entertainment, as well as hotels reported major losses, while companies engaged in the production of home appliances, biomedicines and automobiles saw significant gains.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China’s Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.59 percent to close at 2,051.04 points on Tuesday.
